UN APPREZZAMENTO ALLO SPETTACOLO DI MONICA RIZZARDI
La vita è piena di sorprese. Una tale sorpresa per me è stata l’occasione quando sono stato piuttosto fortunato di essere testimone all’Arangetram (Debutto) di Monica Rizzardi (Ishvari Devi) proveniente dall’Italia.
Il suo spettacolo di Bharata Natyam all’ ADA Rangamandira di Bangalore il 23 febbraio 2004 è stato veramente una festa per tutti i conoscitori della grande arte del Bharata Natyam.
Monica che ha studiato in un primo tempo con il leggendario (ora scomparso) Ram Gopal e continuato in seguito ad apprendere da Smt. Leela Ramanathan, ha deliziato con le delineazioni delle complicate combinazioni di Jathis e Adavus del suo repertorio di Bharata Natyam, e il selezionato pubblico di critici della danza e ammiratori riuniti all’auditorium sono stati veramente storditi dalla sua grazia, dalla angashuddham e senso del ritmo.
Ha iniziato il suo spettacolo nello stile tradizionale con Ganesha Kautuvam e ha continuato poi con l’Alarippu, il Chakra Vakam Jathiswaram, lo Srikara Shabdam e ha concluso il suo recital con l’Attana Raga Thillana.
Quando l’ho vista danzare questi pezzi, la mia nostalgica memoria mi ha riportato indietro al 1943 quando con mia moglie, ora defunta, danzavo gli stessi brani insegnateci dal grande Guru del Bharata Natyam Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai di Tanjore. Queste composizioni hanno retto la prova del tempo, una definitiva testimonianza che le danze classiche saranno sempre eterne.
La tranquillità, la grandiosità e la fiducia
con la quale ha tenuto lo spettacolo promette bene per il suo futuro
e decisamente le auguro ogni bene e prego quell’altro Divino Danzatore
Lord Nataraja di benedirla e concederle anni di spettacoli di danza
proficui e pieni di successo dovunque lei scelga di danzare.

An Appreciation of Monica Rizzardi's Performance

Life is full of surprise. One such surprise for me was the occasion
when I was fortunate enough to witness the Arangetram ( Debut ) of Ms.
Monica Rizzardi ( Ishvari Devi ) of Italy.
Her performance of Bharata Natyam at the ADA Rangamandira in Bangalore on 23rd February 2004 was truly a feast for all connoisseurs of the great art of Bharata Natyam.
Monica who had learnt earlier from the legendary (late) Ram Gopal and thereafter continued to learn from Smt. Leela Ramanathan revelled in her delineation of the intricate patterns of Jathis and Adavus of her Bharata Natyam repertoire and the select audience of dance critics and admirers assembled at the auditorium were truly stunned by her grace, angashuddham and sense of rhythm.
She started her performance in the traditional manner with Ganesha Kautuvam and thereafter continued with Alarippu, Chakra Vaka Jathiswaram, Srikara Shabdam, and concluded her recital with Attana Raga Thillana.
When I saw her perform these items, my nostalgic memory took me back to 1943 when my wife and I performed the same items taught to us by the great Bharata Natyam Guru the late Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai of Tanjavur. These compositions have stood the test of time, a definite proof that classical dances will always be eternal.
The ease, grandeur, and confidence with which she performed augurs well for her future and I unhesitatingly would like to wish her well and pray to that other Divine Dancer Lord Nataraja to bless her and grant her years of fruitful and successful dance performances wherever she chooses to dance.
